Mourning Hood

291. A very rare mourning hood or widows hood, maybe a unique survivor? This feels 19th century to me. It has old cut shell beads painstakingly attached around the edge and traded bells with a single blue glass trade bead. This may indicate a point in time where the old shell beads were about to be replaced by European glass beads.

There is a later example in the British Museum, number As1987,01.83 described as Toraja, Sulawesi.
