Woomera

33. This fascinating artifact, a spear-thrower, features an intricate and brilliantly executed design across one surface. The artist likely used a compass or traced around a comercialy manufactured object to create the circular motifs, while the fine lines within the shapes appear to have been painstakingly inscribed free-hand. The reverse side of the spear-thrower is adorned with decorations made using stone tools and created at an earlier time. At one end, the resin contains an inserted piece of knapped stone, this object served multiple purposes — functioning as both a tula, woomera and ceremonial board.19th century.
