Stone Falcon Pipe.
90. Known as ‘Great pipes’ this is a fine and particularly well sculpted example. Carved from steatite, many of these pipes were found in an archeological context in the 19th and early 20th centuries. This has an inventory number 3280 and another label describing the place of discovery ‘OBLION Co TENN 1936?’ It may have been broken and restored at some point, I am not 100% certain? but many of these were found broken.
16cm long.
Ex private collection.
Middle Woodland period. A.D. 200-500
