7. An exceptionally fine shield in remarkable condition, 19th century.

Collected by Leon Joseph Ernest Van den Broeck (1863-1921). Van den Broeck was born in Mechelen on 28 June 1863, joined the army and served as an officer 1891-1916, serving his first term in the Belgian Congo from 1899-1903. He was appointed Inspecteur de Transport de la Province Orientale in 1905 and Commissaire de District for the area of Lake Leopold II in 1910. He returned to Belgium for the last time in 1915 and was created Lt.Colonel posthumously in Brussels in 1921.
