Marie Ange Saulnier-Ciolkowska (born 1898) was an inspiring figure known for her treasured apartment at 26 rue Jacob and her deep connections to artists and writers including Picasso. She married painter and art critic Henri Saulnier Ciolkowska in 1924, who introduced her to African  artifacts. During WWII, she was active in the Resistance and awarded the Croix de Guerre. Her son Tony became a photographer for Paris Match and introduced her to the Dogon culture in Mali. After Tony’s death in 1968, she continued travels with photographer Herbert Rieser. She was passionate about art, collecting masks and figures. Summers were spent running a restaurant in southern France, with notable friends from the art and collecting world.
